On paper, both units boast Direct Drive technology and a Quick Release mechanism. However, Simucube 2 Pro takes the lead with its higher torque rating of 25Nm compared to Cammus C5's paltry 5Nm. But let's not get ahead of ourselves – the numbers don't tell the whole story.
I've seen countless users complaining about Simucube 2 Pro's reliability issues, with some reporting disconnections and failures after extended use. It sounds like a nightmare to deal with, especially when you're in the middle of a heated racing session. I've also heard that Fanatec's customer support can be a mixed bag – while some users have received prompt assistance, others have been left hanging. The quality control issues are well-documented; it seems like every other unit has its share of problems. And don't even get me started on the power supply failures – I've read about multiple instances where users had to RMA their units due to faulty power supplies. It's a good thing Simucube 2 Pro is still relatively affordable, but you'd think that price would be better allocated towards quality control.
Camus C5, on the other hand, has its own set of problems. Users are reporting issues with the pedals, which seem to break down after extended use. The software updates have only made things worse, turning what was once a decent product into an expensive paperweight. And let's not forget about the shipping nightmares – excessive wait times and lack of tracking information will drive you mad. I've seen users trying to troubleshoot issues on their own, but it seems like Cammus is more interested in shifting blame than providing actual support.
Simucube 2 Pro might have its share of problems, but at least it's a well-rounded product with decent customer support. While the quality control issues are still a major concern, I'd argue that Simucube 2 Pro is still a better choice than Cammus C5 – at least for now. If you're looking for a reliable and high-performance Direct Drive experience, Simucube 2 Pro might be worth the premium price point. Just don't expect it to work flawlessly out of the box; you'll need to do some troubleshooting on your own.
For casual sim racers or those on a tighter budget, Cammus C5 might seem like a good option – but I wouldn't recommend it unless they can significantly improve their quality control and customer support. It's just not worth the hassle and potential expense of dealing with broken pedals and terrible shipping experiences.
Ultimately, my money would go to Simucube 2 Pro for its sheer performance and (relatively) better customer support – but don't say I didn't warn you about those quality control issues.
