Peak concurrent players on Steam — March 31, 2026

Le Mans Ultimate has officially broken its all-time concurrent player record, reaching 8,809 players on Steam on March 31, 2026. The previous record of 8,463 was set during the V1.0 release in July 2025.

What Drove the Surge?

Three things collided in late March to create the perfect storm:

From Hundreds to Thousands

The growth trajectory is remarkable. In the early days of Early Access (February 2024), barely a few hundred players were online. The combination of consistent content updates, fresh investment from Pimax, and an engaging multiplayer mode has transformed LMU into one of sim racing's most-played titles.

The V1.3 update in particular addressed long-standing complaints — the FFB rewrite was one of the most-requested features since launch, and the switch to Coherent UI fixed several UI responsiveness issues that had plagued the experience.

What's Next for LMU?

According to Traxion's reporting, the career mode has been repeatedly delayed — originally expected end of 2026, it continues to slip. However, with console versions still on the roadmap, the player base is expected to grow further once the game reaches Xbox and PlayStation.

The free Genesis hypercar was a smart move — it generated goodwill, brought laps attention from WEC fans who hadn't tried the sim yet, and gave existing players a reason to jump back in.

Why This Matters

Le Mans Ultimate went from a rough Early Access launch to a legitimate iRacing competitor in endurance racing. The content pipeline is consistent, the multiplayer is engaging, and the developer (Studio 397) is clearly listening to community feedback.

At 8,809 concurrent players, LMU isn't threatening iRacing's numbers — but it's no longer a niche title either. For sim racers who want an alternative to iRacing's subscription model, LMU is increasingly the default choice for endurance racing content.

Note: Peak concurrent player data via Steam. Numbers may vary slightly from official figures.
